Mr A. Hosking, headmaster of Mt. Eden School, has received intimation from the general manager of the New Zealand Exhibition that he has been awarded a gold medal for his New Zealand telluvian, an instrument of importance to educationists in connection with the teaching of astronomical geography. Iu reply to an inquiry by Mr 11. J. Greenslade, M.H.R., the Minister for Railways states that in the near future very extensive alterations will be. necessary in connection with the Morrinsville station to provide for the expansion of business which is now going on ah over the railway system of the North Island, and it will therefore be necessary to remove the present station to a more suitable position. Mr Poole has given notice to ask the Premier whether he will make provision in the promised Gaming Bill for a reduction by one-third of the number of days of racing as existing last year, and for which the totalisator was licensed. The member for Auckland West also suggests that Auckland and Christchurch racing clubs should have the right to use the totalisator on twelve days and Wellington and Dunedin eight days, the balance of the number of days, as reduced by one-third, being divided pro rata by the racing conference among the racing clubs now holding permits for the use of the totalisator. He also wishes it made obligatory that the machine be closed at least five minutes before the advertised time of starting each race, the penalty for a breach of this provision t® be the immediate cancellation of Hie club sliuonse to usg tbe totalisator. His final suggestion is that inspectors appointed by the Government and paid by the clubs using the totalisator should watch and check all investments, and see that no money is put on after the advertised time of starting the race.

Cambridge Co operative Dairy Company —The report and balance-sheet disclose a highly satisfactory condition of affairs. The milk received during the past season was 19,440,5901 b, and advances were made on 728,9501 b of butter fat. Butter sold and in stock amounted to 838,4241 b, equal to 374 tons, showing an increase over the pievious year of 83 tons. It took an average of 23.181 bof milk to make lib of butter. From each pound of butter fat, 1.151 bof butter was made. The average test for the whole season was 3.9. Suppliers have already received for the mouths of Juue, July, and August, 190 G, lid per lb for butter fat, and for the months of September to May, 1907, inclusive, 9id, which, with tbe payment of lgd bonus, will make the total payments lOgd and Is per lb respectively. The bonus payable to suppliers amounts to £3600, the total amount of cash distributed among suppliers for the year approximating £32,500 The company distributed by way of salaries, etc., a further sum of £SOOO.
