BRISBANE, This Day, At the return match Australia v. New Zealand between 16,000 and 17,000 were present, A strong wind was blowing, and Australia winning the toss, took advantage of this. Despite this the Blacks kept, the home team busy in their territory, but failed to get across. Eventually, however, Australia, with a dribbling rush, invaded New Zealand’s quarters, and Wallace being collared before he could pass, Messenger got possession and. crossed the line, from which he kicked a goal, scoring first blood for Australia. Shortly after New Zealand’s goal was again in danger,, but towards the end, which endedwjthout further score, play was in neutral, ground. In the second speH.'play,was not long under way before Dix fumbling the ball allowed Seeling to cross, and Wallace equalised the score by placing a goal. ~ The Blacks were soon on the oftensive again, and Wallace from a pass by Hunter scored near the comer. Francis failed at goal. The gamp hovered about in the home teap s quarters, and Dix again fumbling enabled Francis to score, put he 'ailed to convert. . The attack on the home line coniinued with vigour,* and what looked--ike a score was only averted by Tihelly kicking into dead country. On resuming a scfu m was m the Australian line, from which loberts got the ball and passed to Vallace, who scored behind the iosts. No goal resulted. Towards the end the Australians layed with a considerable amount f dash, but the defence was too krong for them, though when “no ide ” sounded they had New Zealand inned down in the corner. The game resulted : New Zealand 1, Australia 5.
