Alleged Theft of Jewellery
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. At the Police Court, Mary Prentice and Sarah Jackson, mother and daughter, were charged by the latter’s husband with theft of jewellery, shirts and other articles, valued at £4. Counsel for accused objected to a remand asked for, alleging the younger woman was subjected to great cruelty by her husband, and this was the latter’s revenge for her mother taking her away. The articles were mostly given to the wife, by her husband. The police said they knew nothing of the facts, and the Magistrate said he would remand the hearing here on small bail to enable the matter’to be settled.
