HAMILTON, This Day. A shop in Yictoria-street, owned by 1 Messrs Green and Coalbrooke, and occupied by Mr B. Ramsay, draper, was gutted by fire last night. The brigade did good work in saving the adjoining premises. The buildings were insured for £375 in the United Office and Mr Ramsay’s stock for £7OO in the Victoria Office. Arthur Graham Owen was committed for trial on a charge of making a false declaration to the Registrar of Marriages, Christchurch, by declaring himself a bachelor and going through a ceremony of marriage with Ruth Muter, being then married to a woman at Adelaide, Accused said the Adelaide marriage was not legal, because he had a wife living in England then. BLENHEIM, This Day. A discovery of the greatest importance in all the rabbit infested districts was made by John Murray, Wood- j bank, in the effective treatment of distemper amongst ferrets, hitherto j fatal m most cases. '■ A man named Charles Ogle was burnt to death last night at Glen Wye'Station. When Kissell, who was arrested in Sydney, came before the Court charged with escaping from custody, : the magistrate said he was in the asylum when he escaped and was still a lunatic, not having been discharged from the lunatic asylum, : and he could not plead, and the case < must be dismissed. The gaol and asylum authorities must settle who was to take him.
