NEW SOUTH WALES 14, NEW ZEALAND NIL.

(By Telegraph)—‘Pros® Association.)

SYDNEY, YesterdayThe final was New South Wales 14 points; New Zealand nil. Twenty-five thousand witnessed the match. The weather was fine, but a keen southerly wind was blowing. The Welshmen gave a fine exposition of rugby and out-played the New Zealanders in all departments. In the first half the visitors had the advantage of a strong wind, and for a time held the local men, but towards the end of the spell they were acting on the defensive, and both McGue and Russell crossed their line, the efforts to kick goals being unsuccessful. In the second spell the visitors, with one or two exceptions, were on the defensive the whole time, and though hardly pressed throughout, only once more did the home team cross their line, Messenger scoring a clever try, which he converted, and later in the game the same player kicked a nice goal from a mark. Towards the end of the game Roberts secured a mark for the visitors, and Wallace made a good but ineffectual shot at goal, no further scores were made.

The match is a record for New Zealand not to score at all. They have been beaten before, but not by a love game. Undoubtedly the best team won ; and it was a brilliant win by a brilliant team.

SYDNEY, This Day. In discussing the match, tho “ Herald ” says tha honors of victory lay with the local forwards, but tho team as a whole played consummato football.
