Captain Cook Memorial.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

GISBORNE, This Day. Gisborne is again discussing with more or less warmth the question of how best to rectify the incomprehensible blunder that was made in plastering three sides of the Cook memorial with the names of local troopers who saw service in South Africa. At a recent meeting, a committee was set up to collect funds to refund to the Patriotic Committee the £l5O they subscribed, and to replace the troopers’ names with further detailed reference to the great navigator. An offer was made by Mr J. Black to contribute £SO towards a life-size bronze figure of Captain Cook in the town if nine other people would do likewise.
