WELLINGTON, This Day. In the Council, the Hon. H. Scotland resumed the debate on the Address-in-Reply continued by Hons. McCardle, Callan and T. Kelly. The debate was adjourned on the motion of the Hon. Aiistey. The Hon. H. Feldwick moved a resolution extending their sympathy to the Hon. Hall-Jones in • his illness. The Attorney-General and Hons. Luke, Thompson, Ansley, Longhman and W. G. Smith briefly eulogised Hon. I-lall-Jones’ services, and themotim was carried. The Council rose at HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. In the House the following Bills Were read the first time ’. Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill, Police Offences Act Amendment, Tohnnga Suppression. 7 - The Speaker announced the receipt of the bust of Admiral Nelson in Victory oak copper, presented to the. New Zealand Parliament the British and Foreign Sailors Society, as a memoir of the centenuary of of Nelson’s death, and it. was solved on the motion of Sir Joseph Ward, seconded by Mr Massey to accept the gift and tender their thanks to the donors. . -f* The debate on the Address-in reply was resumed by Messrs Greenslade, • Hogg, Stallworthy and Seddon. The Premier announced that owing to Hon. Hall-Jones’ absence the following re-distribution of portfolios would be made.— Public Works and Tourist Department, Mr McGowan; Railways, Sir Joseph Ward ; Defence, Mr McNab ; printing office, Mr Millar.
