A Sad State of Affairs.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Church of England has issued a circular asking for subscriptions for Church work along the Central Trunk line. It states there are 2,300 men with a large number of women, and children, and living hard, comfortless lives in camp, with no provision for their spiritual welfare. Services are not held, and marriages not solemnised, and the sacraments not administered, and the sick are not visited. Two lay messengers have gone up, and £IOO has been guaranteed, but £4OO per annuity is required.
