INVERCARGILL, This Day. A serious fire broke out at six o’clock this morning in the Nightcaps coal mine. Three men were cut off—William Duncan, William Carson and Patrick Walsh. Duncan’s body has been recovered, and it is feared there is no chance of recovering the other men alive. The rescue party was unable to enter the mine on account of firedamp. All the men killed are married and leave families. The fire has been slightly troublesome for months past and must have suddenly increased. There were only a few men in the mine.
CHEISTGH LURCH, This Day. Information has been received that the Exhibition organ is to be handed over to the Mayor pending the sanction parliament to its presentation to Christchurch.
