LONDON, Yesterday. In the House of Commons many further questions were asked why the Transvaal loan was more favoured than any other. Mr Winston Churchill made no definite reply. Captain Craig asked whether the Government would guarantee a loan to develop the British interest in New Hebrides, provided the Is-. landers consented to the deletion of the clauses of the Anglo-French convention, relating to the employment of children from sunrise to sunset, with only one hour’s rest. Asquith replied, “ no.” Mr Morley’s Indian Budget statement was well received, It announced a reduction of half-a» million in military expenditure there. One black shadow was the plague, which had claimed 5J million victims between 1896. and April 1907. It was remarked that a Royal Common might usefully be held to enquire over the centralisation andadministrative matters. It the establishment of an advisoi;W council of notables, enlargement of the legislative councils, and the appointment of one or two Indian members of the council of India in London.
