New, Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s Ltd., report.— Horses: On Friday, at the Durham Yards, horses were yarded in scarcely average numbers and competition was extra keen for anything of a decent stamp. We quote—Heavy draughts, at from £32 LOs to £42 ; medium do., £24 os to £36; hacks and light harness horses, £7 os to £l9 10s ; sulky, £1010s"; spring cart £l2. On Thursday and Friday we held a special sale of horses at Pukekobe, when 312 were yarded. The sale was a most successful one buyers being present from all surrounding districts, Palmerston North, and Waikato. With very few exceptions everything changed hands uuder the hammer or privately. Unbroken light draught horses sold at from £l6 10s to £25. No extra heavy draught unbroken horses were j'arded. Light horses sold at from £l2 10s to £l7; ponies, £3 l'Os to £9 10s; broken-in horses, draughts, £25 10s to £46 10s; medium do., £l7 os to £3O ; light har-

ness horses, £l2 losto£2s 10s; hacks, £lO to £2O 15s ; ponies, £5 os to £l4. No extra heavy horses were yarded. The young horses from Mr J. E. Kerup, Awhitu, were a good lot, showing both quality and snbstance, and sold at from £3l to £43. On Wednesday we held a sale of thorou ghbred horses at Mr J. E. Thorpe’s

stables, Ellerslie, when the following sales were effected: —Yearling colt by Hoult—Lady Hester, 200 guineas ; bay gelding Sir Hector' 40 guineas ; bay ditto Defender, 55 guineas ; bay mare Austerlitz, 40 guineas; Hierarch, 160 guineas ; Canrobert, 250 guineas. At Waiukn on Saturday we had an average yarding, which met a steady competition. Dairy cows sold at from £3 5s to £7 ; empty ditto, £ll2s to £2 17s ; calves, 15s to£l Bs. Beef sold at Newmarket rates. The lease by order of the Public Trustee in the estate of Mr, W. Bloor (deceased) realised £4O. On Tuesday, at the Newmarket yards, dairy and store stock were yarded in average numbers. Beef was penned in average quantities. Bidding was good and prices showed an upward tendency. Oxen sold to 22s per 1001 b ; cows, 17s to 19s per 1001 b. Steers sold at from L 6 10s to LlO 7s 6d ; cows. L 3 10s to L 7. Dairy cows sold at from L 3 10s to L 6 14s ; empty ditto, LI 15s to L2 18s; calves, 15s to LI 6s. The, advertised Holstein heifers sold at from L 4 4s to Lll 11s. The fat cattle were all light weights. Sheep were yarded in usual numbers at the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday rod first quality advanced in price. Wetl -rs .- old at from 19s 6d to LI 5s 6d; ewes.
