WAIHOU Y TE ABOHA.
[Our own Correspondent.] The second cup match under the auspicious of the Piako Bugby Union was played at Waihou on Saturday last, when the Waihou and Te Aroha teams met to try conclusions The day was fine, and the ground was in good order, but the attendance for a Waihou-Te Aroha match was small. The Te Aroha team was- the same that beat Morrinsville the Saturday previous, with the exception of T. Aitken, who took Lipsey’s place in the thiee-quarter line. Mr C. Mettam of Paeroa had charge of the game, and gave every satisfaction, while Messrs Heathcote and Buchan acted as line umpires. Te Aroha (blue and whites) won the toss and ’ defended the northern end. Waihou (maroon and gold) kicked off and the ball was smartly returned to Waihou’s twenty five Hawkins- the Waihou full back, made a mull, and T. Aitken, who followed up fast, secured the leather and dashing over the line scored a try for Te Aroha within a minute from the kick-off. The attempt at goal was a failure. Soon I after a free kick was awarded Waihou in j a g ■ -<i position and E. Timmins this time being entrusted with the kick, land \ ' ed a beautiful goal, bringing the total points to three all. Soon after the Te Aroha backs started flinging the ball about, and good passsing by Paddy and J. Timmins smartly intercepted a j pass and found the line at half way. ; , Play was quiet now for a few minutes and gradually the Waihou forwards : worked their way to Te Aroha’s line ; where the blue and whites were compelled to force. For Waihou the shining lights among the backs were E. Timmins, J. O’Grady, Shine and St. George, and the forwards . who stood out were White, Cummerford, ahd Eooney. The teams were captained by D. Shaw. Te Aroha, and D. Borrie, Waihou, and ; both kept their men well in hand. Next Saturday Waihou meet Morrinsville at the latter place.
