Observance of Empire Day,

The movement started in Auckland for concentrating in Empire Day the two holidays that are now so inadequately celebrated on that day and the Prince of Wales’ Birthday has been pretty generally endorsed throughout the colony,, and has had the happy result of drawing from the Acting-Premier an expression of his views on the subject. Mr Hall-Jones is evidently in one with those who desire to see Empire Day given its true importance and significance. Speaking at the Mayoral banquet in Christchurch he said he claimed the assistance of the Mayor, as he would qlaim. iffrom othqr Mayors throughout lfie' v ß#bny, to make..,the Empire Day of 1907 a record celebration. We have it on the authority Of Mr T. H. Race, that in Canada, which had the' honour of originating its celebration, the day is the greatest holiday of the year, eclipsing, even “ Dominion , Day,” the anniversary of the inauguration of the Dominion, the letter, is the occasion for marking the patriotic pride of Canadians in their splendid country, but the former embraces a wider, grander field in that it is the day dedicated to the Imperial sentiment. It is therefore hoped that the observance of- Empire Day will be general throughout -New Zealand and that it wilj. be made the occasion of such celebrations as are worthy of the great day.

Mr A. Adams, Havelock, Marlborough, N.Z., says “ I consider that Ohambeilain’s Tablets.are an A.l. remedy, aDd the most efficient procurable for all disorders of the stomach, liver and bowels. I have used them for some time, deriving the greatest benefit, and have every confidence in recommending them to all in need of ouch a medicine.—For sale by Johnson and Wigg, agents, Up-to-date methods in job printing at the News Office—no antiquities.
