Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report. Horses: At the Haymarket on Friday last we again had a large entry, with a good demand for all working and useful harness horses. Light hacks and gig herses sold at £6 to £l3 ; hettar olasses up to £22 ; heavy spring-cart and waggon horses, £3l to £37 ; no extra heavy draughts yarded; medium draughts, £22 to £3ss 10s, according to quality and age. Aged draughts in working condition, £l7 10s to £25 ; weeds and scrubbers, any price; horse covers, 15s each.
At the sale of Mr F. Lucas’ live and dead
stock at Puni on Saturday there was a large attendance and prices were satisfactory. The Jarm mares made £ls 10 to £39 ; buggy mares, £l9; cowf, £3 17s 6d to £7 ; heifers £3 5s to £5 ; 18-months heifers, £1 15s to £2; calves, 15s ; cast, £l2 ; dray, £5 ; roller, £3 12s 6d ; reaper and binder, £9 ; small porkers. 15s 6d ; sows, £2 13s to £3 3s. A large quantity of furniture and sundries sold well.
We held our usual monthly sale at Pukekohe on Monday and yarded 605 head. Bidding was inclined to be dull, although very few left the yards unsold. Dairy cows, £5 10s to £7 10s for best: others, £3 15s to £5 ; old and inferior, £1 5s to £2 10s ; very forward bulleck.s, £6 10s ; 10-months to two-year-olds, £2 5s to £2 15s ; yearlings, £1 11s to £2 Is; young empty cows, £2 to £3 2s Gd ; strong calves, 15s to £1 2s ; smaller sorts 9s to 13s. One hundred and five beef met with a fair sale ; steers, £7 to £8 5s ; cows and heifers, £3 17s 6d to £5 10s. At Eemuera on Thursday both dairy and store cattle came forward in small numbers. Those sold at late values. Fat and young calves, in full supply, sold from 2s to 60s, according to weight and quality; 76 sold. There was a fair muster of fat cattle of choice quality, which sold freely throughout at an advance on recent sales. Steers ranged in price from £6 10s to £9 17s 6d; cows, £3 10s to £6 ss; 268 sold. Sheep came forward in average numbers, best wethers, selling from 21s to 24s 9d, others 16s to 19s; 1200 sold. Lambs, in short supply were better worth. Pigs sold freely throughout; small, from 8s to 15s ; porkers, to 355; baconers, to £3 ;80 sold. Poultry, Is 3d to Is lid.
Hides, skins, tallow, etc. : Hides—Lower. Ox, sjfd to 7|d; cow, to s|d; kip, 5d to sgd ; calf, Gd to stags’, 4d ; damaged hides, Id to 5d ; horsehair, Is 6jd ; tallow, 20s to 26s ; bones, 4s 9d to ss. Skins —best lambs’ and pelts, 4s to 4s 6d ; others, Is to 3s 9d.
