INSTALLATION OF COUNCIL

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night for the pur> pose of installing the Mayor and new councillors. Present: His Worship, the Mayor (R. S, Somers, Esq.), Councillors J. Rowe, J. Hubbard, E. Devey, Geo. Spence, H. Jackson, A. Annan. The Mayor and councillors duly made and signed their declarations. The Mayer congratulated the old members of the Council who were reelected, and also the new members who were elected , , The councillors congratulated the Mayor on his return to office, . each expressing a hope that the coming year s work would prove to be to the interest of the whole borough. The Mayor thanked those present for their congratulaiions, and moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the retiring councillors. Messrs Mcludoe, Hetherington and O’Meagher. This was seconded by Cr Spence and carried. The following committees were elected for the ensuing year.— Works and Sanitary Committee, Crs Spence and Hubbard. Finance and Legal Committee, Grs Rowe and Jackson. Fire and Building Committee, Grs Devey and Annan. _ Waterworks and Electric Light Committee, Crs Annan and Hubbard, It was resolved teat the Mayor be exofficio a member of all committees. . The Finance and Legal Committee will submit the estimates for the coming year at the next ordinary meeting to be held on May 22nd. The date of meeting was fixed for the forrth Wednesday in each month. The meeting was then concluded.
