At the -Invere-11 (N.fnW.) band carnival, held recently. Mr Tlio-s. Me-llor, well known hitherto as the bandmaster in Waihii, was amongst those who achieved notable- successes. In addition
to other prizes he a ,£5 5s tro-hpy for conducting the best band (Newtown), his hand winning the- “A”
grade contest. Miss Lizzie Mellor, at the same carnival, won the open piano solo, and also the “reading at sight”
competition, In the English sweated industries exhibit, which is; to- be shown throughout the colony,is ai model dressed in 'a lady’s costume of the latest fashion,'
and the price paid to the worker for making the complete- costume —coat and skirt lined with silk was Is Id. ,Aill the exhibits were collected by a Slum Committee appointed at Home;’ by the Agent-General, and the collectors vouch for the sum paid.
