Sydney Coal Strike.
NON - UNIONISTS ASSAULTED,
TWENTY INJURED,
(By TelegraphI—Press 1 —Press Association.) SYDNEY, Yesterday-
There is a sensational development of the coaling trouble. The coaling of the Nord Deutscher Lloyd’s steamer Prinz Sigismund, with non-unionists was to have commenced this afternoon. Several hundred strikers and others collected in the vicinity of the company’s wharf at Circular Quay, and when the non-unionists marched down without police escort, the crowd set upon and brutally assaulted them, about 20 being more or less injured. A strong force of police arriving restored order, but not before several of them had been roughly handled. Six arrests were made amid much excitement. Thousands congregated on the wharf watching the later stages of the disturbance.
