Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report.— Horses : We had a full yarding at the Haymarket on Friday last. Competition for anything young and showing quality was keen. Active waggon and express sorts brought from £2B to £4l ; aged draughts, £l6 to 625 ; unbroken medium colts, £26 to £3O; buggy horses and good hacks, £l4 10s to 622 ; light harness and ordinary hacks, £7 to 616 5s ; gig ponies, £3 5s to £l4 10s ; light unbroken colts, £8 10s to £l4 5s ; governor’s cart, pony, and harness, £l7 ; gig, £8 ; waggon, £2O.
At Papakura on Monday we held a special horse sale. More than the advertised number were yarded. Bidding was dull, hut many changed hands at late quotations. At Remuera on Thursday dairy and store cattle came forward in usual numbers. Cows near their profit sold from £3 10s to £8 10s ; dry, £1 10s to £3 ; other stores at recent quotations. Fat and young, in full supply, sold from 2s to £1 18s; 80 sold. There was an average yarding of cattle. Those of good quality retained late values; others were slightly lower. Steers ranged in price from £5 to £lO ; cows, £2 10s to £7 2s 6d ; 310 sold. Sheep in moderate numbers. Best wethers reached 235, lighter weights to 20s, heavy ewes to 18s, others 16s; shorn lambs, 10s to 14s 3d ; those in their wool, 12s to 15s 6d. Pigs, in larger numbers than usual, sold well throughout. Small were from 5s to 14s ; good stores, to 25s ; porkers, 25s to 30s : baconers, 35s to 46s ; 173 sold. Hides, skins, tallow, etc.: Hides—Ox, sfd to 9|d; cow, 5%d to 6]d; kips, sjd to sfd; calf, 6d to 6Jd; horse, 8s 3d to lls 6d ; stags’, 3fd to 4d ; damaged hides, 3d to s|d; horsehair, Is s|d to Is 6d ; bones, £4 15s to £5 ; tallow, 22s to 26s 6d. Skins —Large to 8s 6d; best pelts and lambs’, 3s 7d to 4s 6d ; dry and damaged, 7d to 3s 6d.
