The Hon. 8,. MoNalb proceeded to Auckland on Saturday night in the steamier Lady Roberts, which anchored in the Gulf until the arrival of the Minister after'his visit-to the Piako. The fact that houses in which consumptives have resided harbour the germs of the dread disease, and thereby increase the risk of contagion to others in the building, has been conclusively established. The practice ir. dealing with such buildings, when they are of comparatively modern construction, ha® been to thoroughly fumigate them, and thus destroy the bacilli. With old buildings!, however, a more thorough preventive has to 'be adopted, and this is found in the destruction of such infected places by fire. At Waimatuikui the other day (says the Southland Times) an old seven-roomed house Was thus destroyed. Several cases of consumption had occurred there, and 1 the owner acceded to the, request of the Health Officer to sacri- i flee it to the flames. - i
