The County workmen have been busy in this district of late, effecting necessary repairs to the roads, and cleaning out the water channels which were badly in need of attention, The showery weather is much against ehaff cutting, and with the road formation which is being carried on, upon a portion of the Lockerbie estate, settlers are having great difficulty in getting the machi >e to the stacks. In some cases the work will have to be put off, as it is impossible to either get the engine to the stacks, or to cart the sheaves to the chaff-cutter, which meins considerable loss, as the horses will soon require chaff to keep them in good heart for the winter. It is to be hoped that the weather will improve for the football social, to be held on Friday next and give the fund of the W club a welcome lift. B Mr J. C 11.
