Householders’ Meetings.
MAN AWARD.
At the householders’ meeting- on Honda) night, there was a good attendance. In the selection of a chairman, several who were proposed, declined, Mr M. Cronin ultimately taking- the chair. The Chairman then, in a very able manner, thanked the householders for the confidence they had shown in him, and stated that he had always endeavoured to his utmost to further the interests of the school. He then proceeded to read the report, which stated
that early in the past year Messrs Magill and o’Meagher hail li.'l't the district, and their places had remained unfilled. The remaining l five members had worked together during the year in a most unsellish, earnest and united manner. During the year, through the
cttorts of the Committee, assisted by fho head teacher, a very line school garden was esiaolishc I, at a eost of -215 Ids 2d, one-thinl of which had been granted by the Government, and ouo-third by the Board, whilst the Comm idee had raised the remainder by two
socials mid subscriptions from their uwnpooleds. Agricultural science, as per new syllabus would be taught, the head teacher generously olfering to provide allseeds and j plants free. Mr Stewart, the Board’s in- t s]lector, examined the school in October last, ( when two certificates of proficiency and one of competency were gained by pupils in Standard VL. The certificate of proficiency entitles the holder to a free place in the Auckland Grammar School. The inspector’s

place £9 8s at the disposal of the new committee. The head teaoher had himself attended to the improvement of his buildings and grounds. Good feeling had exist©! throughout the year between members of the committee and between committee and teacher, A vote of thanks was passed to Mr H. Osborne for the able and painstaking manner in which he had carried out his duties as secretary, the members of the committee being sorry that he could not see his way clear to stand for re-election. Tha Chairman particularly thanked all the members of the committee for their continual courtesy to him throughout the year. The report, in the reading of which great interest was taken, was adopted unanimously, - the householders commenting favourably upon the satisfactory balance in hand for the new committee. | The election of a committee was then pro- , ceeded with, the following being nominated ! and votes registered as given : M. The first six were duly declared to be el - ;terl, the meeting applauding, after which a hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
At a short after-meeting Mr Cronin was unanimously re-elected chairman. Messrs Harris and Shaw were nominated for the position of secretary and treasurer, and on ballot being taken Mr Harris was appointed. The Chairman thanked the members of the cornmitteo for the confidence they hai shown in him, and expressed a hope that all would do their best in working together for the welfare of the school.
