MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY

- The Commissioner of the Auckland Railway League reports that he v kited the north end of the main trunk railway works last week and found the work proceeding splendidly and the most confident opinion was expressed

all round that there would be a comparatively'’ easy finish right through by the end of 1908, given good weather. He is ; satisfied that in Augustnext there will be a clear run to Makatoe viaduct and beyond that. Both the Makatote and Mangonuioteao viaduct will be out of the contractors’ hands before next ’Xmas with rails at Makatote on the north and at O’hakune on the south. There will be a gap a little over twelve miles between rail heads. By February next possibly early in March, the gap will be reduced to eight miles.
