SHOPS ACT.
In order to deal with the hours of shops in Great Britain, Sir Charles Dilke has introduced a Bill to the House of whiclP-'roposee that local authorities be coimpelled to make dosing orders,within their areas bulb that they may refer to the ratepayers the question as i to whether 1 anv or-der shall com© into force, or be altered. The Bill provides for a Weekly half holiday, dosing on three days at 7 p.m., one' day at 9 p.m., and one day at 10 p.m. All shops must be closed on Sundays, except those for the sale of medicines, refreshments for consumption ori the premises, tobacco, etc., newspapers ,fresh fruity and intoxicating liquors. No child under the.age of 14 is to 'be employed more than *6O hours in any one week, including meal times, an interval of not less than an hour being allowed for dinner and half an hour for teai. Provision is also made to secure proper ventilation and! sanitary arrangements.
