Ohinemuri County Council.

The monthly meeting was held on Thursday last. Tenders for several contracts were sent in, but as the County has at present no engineer, estimates for the work had not been prepared, and consequently, on the motion of Cr Hetherington, the tenders will be handed back unopened and fresh ones invited. Messrs J. Howie and GK Muir of Tahuna, wrote asking Council to expend the “ thirds ” received there on certain work in front of their property. This mattor was referred to the engineer. Word was received from the Department of Roads- that the subsidy of £1 for £1 up to £54 for the Komata North Road and the £SO grant for the Netherton-Tnrna Road had been j cancelled.

G, Smallman applied fcr an exteD* sion of time on his contract for the bridges on the Paeroa-Te A roha Road. The application was granted. The Thames Valley Reclamation Association wrote asking the Council to appoint two representatives on the association. Consideration of the matter was postponed until Saturday, At the April meeting, Mr Marrinan asked for a return of the receipts and expenditure in the Waitoa Riding for the previous 15 months. The return was presented, being for the period from December Ist, 1905, to March 7th, 1907, as follows :—Receipts : General Rates, £207 Os Id; Government grants, £lB2 10s; total £389 10s Id; Expenditure: Works, £337 3s 4d; Paeroa-Waitoa Road (Government grant) £63 10s ; Paeroa •• le Aroha Road, £228 9s 7d; total, £629 2s lidMr Marrinan said that in asking for the return he had only done so in justice to Mr Hetherington, who at the February meeting had complained bitterly that they were not doing him justice. He therefore asked for the return so as to see what had been spent in Waitoa. He was going to ask for a return of the receipts and expenditure in the Paeroa Riding 'soon. Each riding was entitled to the expenditure of its own revenue, and if the money was spent in other ridings they could be made to pay it back.

The Finance Committee’s' report showed the overdraft to be £6050 12s 9d. Receipts for last month amounted to £941 7s 2d, and accounts amounting to £IO4B 6s lid were passed for payment.
