CHARGED WITH DRUNKENNESS, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This D'a,yThe woman Bertha Victor, alias Levi, who appeared before the Court on a charge of drunkenness, had been passing as a man, and the fact was only discovered when the doctor was treating her. She had previously masqueraded as a man in Sydney, and said she assumed male attire in order to obtain a man’s work which she was able and willing to do. She was remanded to enable the Jewish rabbi to be consulted. She was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on, upon promising to give up wearing men's clothes.
