LORD IVEAGH ON THE NATIONAL - ’ jWAVE OR SOBRIETY. . at the annual general meeting,., of Arthur Guinness, Son,‘ and Company in London, Lord Iveagh said the excise returns of beer .retailed , for consumption in Great Britain .. alone showed an aggregate reduction during the last, jfive v urs of three million.standard barrels: Though partly, accounted for by the general depression during that period in most industries it was evident also that a change in favour of greater temperance was gradually taking place in the habits of all classes. Brewers, as well as . others, would welcome a - movement#of such benefit-to .the community at large, but none tho loss u ' prudent brewery board would take note of this tend and bear in mind/the shrinkage in trade which might possibly, ensue.
