The Late Mrs Johnson.
It is with feelings of the deepest regret that we have to chronicle the death at her late residence yesterday of Mrs Sarah Johnson, wife of Mr Chas. Johnson, and who for many years has been loved and respected by a large circle of friends. Mrs Johnson came from the Old Country in the ship “Maori” under Captain Ashby, landing at Auckland in 1864, just after the close of the Maori war. After arrival in Auckland, land was acquired at Maketu, and farming commenced. Mr and Mrs Johnson leaving there for the Thames when the gold rush broke out. There they remained until coming to Te Aroha about twent' -five years ago, Mrs Johnson living at the Waverley House until about six months ago, until retiring into private life, Mrs Johnson was seventy-five years of age and Was much respected by all who came in contact with her* Much sympathy is felt and expressed for the sorrowing relatives.
