Serious Catastrophe at a Railway Crossing

MILK WAGGON RUN INTO BY TRAIN. Early yesterday morning, as Mr W. Hothrington was taking milk f o the Mangaiti factory, when negotiating tlio crossing at Mangaiti he was keeping a careful look out for the train coming from Thames, but while so doing, found that tho ballast train engaged in repairs to tho permanent way, was approaching in the opposite direction. Air Hetheriugton whipped up his horses and got them clear of the line. Tho train, howevor, was now upon him, and crashed into tho hack wheels of the waggon, v J twisting tho axle and breaking thef vehicle to splinters, throwing Mr Hetheriugton out against a post and rail fence, where, luckily, he escaped without wounds but sustained a more or loss severe concussion of the upper portion of tho spinal, column. Dr Kenny was promptly summoned to attend the sufferer, and is of opinion that the effects of tho shock may pass away with perfect rest, but on the other hand there is just the possibility of a more serious condition developing. Dr Kenny hopes, kowovor, that no such unfortunate symptoms will eventuate.
