Gordon Notes.

[Own Correspondent] The annual general meeting of the Cricket Club was held in the school on Saturday Sept. 30th, Mr W. Newsome was voted to the chair. The balance sheet showed that the Club was in a strong financial position. It was decided r.o hold the first practice of the season on Saturday Oct. 7 th. The f Ilowing committee was then elected ; Messrs A. Franklin, R, Maisev, J. Montague, G. Orr, and F. S. Ramson, (secretary), A meeting of those interested in ob taining telephonic communication for the Gordon Settlement was held in the school on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd. The meeting was fairly representative of the district, and was unanimous in deciding that the connection should be obtained on the terms offered by the Minister in charge. Some doubt was expressed as to whether any one would be willing to take charge of the tele - phon s a" the salary of 2d per message, but it was soon evident that more than, one were quite prepared to take it After considerable discussion it was decided to accept the offer of Mr Montague, the proseut postmaster, A committee consisting of Messrs Brady, News mie, Montague, Maisey and Orr, was elected to go more thoroughly iuto the subject, obtain guarantors, and open communication with the Department, The question of applying for a third mail per week was then gone into, and the opinion was expressed that if residents would refrain from the practice of sending letters to the Waharoa post office by our obligingcream carter, the increased volume of business at the local offiie would soon warrant the desired iuorease in the number of services, especially as the mail-man already runs ’hrice weekly to the Ara'ia'ia post office. The weather is not at all settled, bleak wintry days alternating with warm spring days is very irregular succession. The supply of milk at the local creamery is steadily rising, and promises to be a record one this season.
