New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report: — Horses: On Friday, at the Durham yards, horsos were yarded in usual numbers. Useful heavy draughts kept their value, and are selling at from £2B to £39 10s ; medium ditto, £l6 .os to £26 15s; hacks arid light harness horses, £7 10s to £2l; weeds, £2 2s 6d to £ 1 10s. A Cortland waggon brought £32.
At Papakura on Wednesday there was a large 'muster of stock, 1182 being yarded, amongst them 196 dairy cows. Prices of all d ,-scriptions of stock, with the exception of dairy cattle, which sold at low rates, showed a slight improvement. Dairy cows sold at from £4 5s to £8 10s ; heifers, £4 to £8 2s 6d ; empty cows, £1 6s to £3 10s ; calves, 18s to £1 19s; two to three-year-old steers, £2 19s to £5 los ; grown steers, £4 10s to £7 10s ; beef at Newmarket rates.
Cattle: At the Newmarket yards on Tuesday dairy cows and, stores wore yarded i:i usual numbers. Prices for cows at their profit ranged at from £4 7s 6d to £S; empty ditto, £1 8s to £3 10s ; calves £1 2s to £2 3s. Fat cattle were yarded in scarcely average numbers, and met a brisk sale at improved r ites, oxen selling up to 24s per 1001 b, cow 17s to 225. Steers sold at from £6 10s to £ll 7s 6d , cows, £4 5s to £B. Sheep were yarded in average numbers at ITewmarket on Tuesday and met a ready sale at late values. Wethers sold at from 19s Gd to £1 10s Gd; ewes, 19s to £1 Cs 3d ; hoggets, 16s 9a to £l. Pigs : Porkers, £1 6s to £2 11s; weaners, 8s Gd to 17s 9d. We submitted a large catalogue of hides, skins, and tallow on Tuesday, all lines being sold at late rates. We quote : —Extra stout ox, 6§d to 7jd; stout ditto, 6d to6id; medium ditto, s§d to sgd; light ditto, 4id to 5! f d; light ox, scored, 4|d to 4§d ; cow, bulk 4§d, good 4id to 4|d ; kips, 4id to 4|d : stags, Ad to 3gd. Best butchers’ skins, picked 6s 9d to Bs, medium 5s Gd to 6s 3d, small 3s 9d to 4s Gd, damaged Is Gd to 3s 6d. a Tallow : Market firm. Best mixed, up to 225; good, 19s 6d to 21s 3d ; seconds, 16s Gd to 18s 6d; rough fat, Ifd to lid’ Horsehair, Is 2d to Is 6d. Cowtails, Is 6d per dozen. Bones, L 5. Homs wanted. Wool: Crossbred, 7id to Bid ; crutchings, 4id to 6id : dead, .5.14 to 6|d. Maize: Supplies are again short and the market has advanced Id, the price now being 3s 3d on wharf for wholesale lines. Oats: Local stocks have been completely exhausted, and B grade has been selling freely at 2s 4d ex store and 2s 3d c.i.f. to arrive in Chaff! a Market firm at L 5 to L 5 ss. Potatoes : Market firm, Ll 3 per ton for Tasmanian. Butter: Choice separator, to lid. Cheese, 40’s, sfd ; loaf, 6d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s annual horse fair commenced at Cambridge on Wednesday. In addition to a large number of local buyers, horse dealers were present from all parts of the colony. An unusually large number of colts were offered in the earlier part of the sale, and, as showing the keen demand, only two animals were passed in during the day. Yesterday a fine lot of draughts were submitted. To-day light harness horses and hacks will be offered. It is expected that the fair will last till Saturday night. Alfred Buckland and Sons’ report: — Stock of all classes were well represented at Leuiuera on Thursday. Dairy cows soldat late values. Few stores yarded were better .worth. Fat and young calves, in full supply, sold freely, small selling to Bs, medium to 18s, others to 30s; no heavy weights yarded. The beef pons were well Allied with cattle of choice quality. Prices were easier all round, ox beef selling at 23s the 1001 b, cow to 20s. Steers ranged in price from L 7 to Ll 3 2s 6d; cows, Lsto L 7 17s 6d; 330 sold. Sheep penned in moderate numbers, sold freely, best sheep selling to 335, lighter weights to 265, others 15s to 20s; spring lambs, 14stoLl Is ; 31 sold. Pigs, penned in usual numbers, kept recent quotations, small soiling to 12s 6d, poikerß to 38s, baconers to L 3 16s; 141 sold.
