Correspondence

»Ve do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents. ,

Vae Victis —We will publish your letter if you send your name, not for publication, but as a guarantee of good faith. To the Editor

Sir, —I have waited and watched fontime in hope that an abler pen than mine Would tackle the Railway Station question, but alas, ■ all the writing genius of Te Aroha seems to j have gone to sleep over what I consider to be the most important improvement that Te Aroha needs at present. During the week just passed I saw a visitor in a very delicate state of health, absolutely drenched to,the skin,, and making frantic efforts to reach a place of shelter, of which there was none between the so called railway station and Berghoftr’s shop verandah in Whitaker street, Our Mayor should call the -people together and I feel sure the expressions of indignation one hears hourly expressed in the streets with regard to this matter; if duly recorded’ in the local press, and passed on to the Hon - Seddon would let him and his colleagues see that we have every reason to be disgusted with their treatment of Te Aroha in this matter. The Tourist Department advertises our, healfhgiving waters, invites suffering humanity here to partake thereof, with the probability that when they come they are dumped on to a wretched open platform with great chance of having their ailments added to before reaching a place of shelter. Why oil earth they' keep’ a £675 a year doctor with secretary and a large string of understrappers, and , can do nothing to help us in getting a decent shelter shod in which to receive their prospective patients, beats my understanding. Our quondam Independent member has made a feeble effort to draw the Government to a sense of their duty towards Te Aroha, but as one would naturally expect they are not going to give him a chance to claim any credit for getting us anything. Nothing ; short,. of ]an indignation meeting will arouse . the Minister of Railways from his apathy; especially on the eve of a General Election. '.Trqsting some abler correspondent than I will follow on.— I am etc, #*'■*!>. - w+L • ‘ John Williams.

Sir, —Let us hope that Te Aroha Government supporters have had enough of government candidates, and wiU show- ‘ King Dick and his party at next election that they are not any longer the'servile followers that Mills/ Gavin and party would like their pet government to believe. The treatment we have had in response to our request for a . freehold title, and also the repeated snubs administered to our local Council’s requests for decent station accommodation should satisfy the most ardent “lick spittle” Government supporter that their support is not worth taking into account. Unless lam greatly mistaken Seddon and party will have their eyes ‘ opened in December next. When in the North recently I was agreeably surprised to find, the reaction in favour of a change so marked; numbers of my old friends who thought Seddon and party could do no wrong, had to admit that it is time we had a change.—l am, etc.", —" ' Rip Van Winkle.
