A few days ago at Hamilton the son of Mr Atkins of Te Aroha, went down the road with a pea rifle, accompanied by a friend with the intention of indulging in a little shooting practice. They were using a shilling as a target, and by some means George got too near, receiving the bullet in his left chest, near his heart, but luckily the bullet struck a rib, and glanced off, coming out under his arm. He is to be congratulated on such a lucky escape, and is reported to be progressing favourably. No good trying to get eggs without propel appliances, clover cutt rs, bone and grit mills stocked by Johnson and Wigg.—Advt. An exchange says . —Apropos of a recent inquest at Mount Eden Gaol, Robert Mackie, of Te Aroha, writes “In sending you this short statement I feel that I am performing a duty. In March, 1904, I was taken from here to the above named prison. lam seventy years of age, and had to be seen and tieated by a doctor before leaving here, Passing over details, on the 18th of June following, I was pushed on the stairs by a fellow prisoner, and my head struck an iron gate, so that I just missed being killed on the spot, when, no doubt, a similar inquest and verdict would have been passed upon my remains. But lam alive, and able to tell a very different tale.” Monday, August 28th, is]a redletter day in the annals of Te Aroha. It has been declared by Messrs Johnson and Wigg to be their bonus day.—Advt. Hatrick begs to notify that as his new spring goods are being opened up, the special sale discount will be discontinued on 31st August, but will continue giving bargains in clearing lines until he finally disposes of bis Te Aroha bu-iness.
