Inoculating the Ground.
A NEW METHOD OF FERTILISING. The wonderful discovery lately made by au American, by which it has been proved that barren soils could he rendered extremely fertile through the agency of bacteria, for some time remained a secret of the American De partment of Agriculture. Recently, however; the Journal of the British Board of Agriculture [pointed out that the inoculating material can he obtained at the cost of two shillings a tube from [Professor Hiltner, Bavaria, who [also issues instructions. The Department of Agriculture at I Washington, U.S.A., still conItinue to supply the material with Iwhich instructions are given. It [is claimed that good results are [assured even from the most un|promising soil, with the fertiliser [and it is a matter of great inIterest to many of the produce ■growers of this country, it is ■likely that our own Department ■of Agriculture will, if they ■have not already taken steps, ■enquire into the matter. In re■viewing the marvellous discoveries made and cures effected in ■nedical science, by the use of Bacteria, and in the bacterial treatment of sewage, now recog■lised as the best method, it Is not too much to say that Ihis new system of fertilising,. may prove to be of Inestimable value, provided, of Bourse, that expense does not Bar its use for practical purposes
