The Ohinemuri Seat
OBJECTION TO LIBERAL LEAGUE’S CANDIDATE In connection with the selection of Mr Poland (one of the candidates f»r the Ohinctnuri seat) by the branches of the Liberal and Labour League, the following petition to the Premier is being circulated and signed in the electorate “ We, such electors of Ohinemuri as subscribe our names to this letter, do so to show our intense disapprobation of the action of the absurdly small number of Paeroa people who have termed themselves a branch of the Liberal and Labour League. In calling ourselves as we do, thorough and bona fide Liberals, we disclaim any connection with these individuals and tho candidate they have selected in the name of Liberalism. In choosiug this candidate, we had no opportunity of voicing our views. The “ public meetiug ” so-called, was reduced to a few who were bound to vote as arranged and at no real public meeting, were we given a chance of selecting a candidate. The person selected in no way represents us, and we desire hereby to record our protest against what has been arrogated in our name. Furthui we beg respectfully to disclaim any connection with this ‘ self-styled ’ branch of the ‘ Liberal and Labour 7 League.”—Paeroa Gazette.
