Volunteer Notes.

Members of the Piako Mounted Rifles are reminded that a capitation dismounted parade will be held at Te Aroha on the 3rd inst. at 7.30 p.m. Class-firing takes place at 2 o’clock. GOVERNMENT MEDAL COMPETITION. Wellington, Saturday* The following is the result of the competition by the North Island volunteers for the Government prize medals of 1903G01d medal for the best shat in the North Island, Private A. Jj. Humphries (Taranaki Rifles), 55 points; gold and ailver medal for the second best shot in the North Island (name omitted), 53 points; silver medal for the best shot in the Auckland district, Private J 9 G. Comes (Ohinejnuri Rifles), 51 points; silver medal for the best shot in the Wellington district, Sergeant E. Perrin (Palmerston North Rifles), 52 paints.

SHOOTING MATCH.

A shooting match took placs at the Cambridge range on Friday afternoon between teams representing the A. B, and D. Squadrons. The A. Squadron (Hamilton) won with a score of 981. It will be observed that the totals show a.difference of 19 points between each Of the three teams. The day was wet and very unfarourable for target shooting. The conditions were seven shots at 500 yards, and seven shots at yards. The scores are as follows: A Squadeok (Hamilton).

At the conclusion of the match some Volley firing took place under the supervision of Staff Sergeant-Major Coleman.
