Speaking at the opening of the new railway station at Petone, the Minister of Railways said he believed they would ultimately run all the lines, depending on seaports, by electricity. All preliminary work for the duplication of the Auckland-Penrose line was completed, and work would he begun in the next three weeks. The congestion there was as bad as here, and the government are anxious to complete the work as soon as possible. Work is to be started on the Dunedin-Mosgiel line in six weeks.
