McLeod took 5 wickets for 125 and Noble 2 for 33. # Australia lost five wickets in the first innings for 88. Noble 7, Truinper 11 Hill 0, Armstrong 29, Duff 11. | When the match was continued the following day there was again a large attendance the weather being fine, but the heavy rain overnight threatened to I make the wicket difficult. Nothin <r of any moment occurred in the concludI ing portion of England’s innings, I which realised 446 runs. Jackson was I batting for 3-i 1 - hours. I The Australians opened badly, I Trumper, Hill and Noble were out I with total at 27, and Duff at 41, Arrnand Darling carried the total to I 88, when the former was dismissed. I The sixth wicket fell at 93, and the I colonials were beginning to find that I the wicket was very difficult, yet I J) irling m waged to pile on the runs, I and his was the eighth wicket to fall, I when the total had been increased to 1146. The Australian Captain bad I given a brilliant display of careful I cricket on a difficult wicket, and re--1 ceived an ovation on returning to the I pavilion. The Australians, who had ost one wicket for 118, when play itopped the previous night, made no itaud against the Home bowling, the emaining batsmen adding- only 51 uns, the innings realising 169, eaving England victorious by an and 80 runs.
