A Question of Lease.
At a meeting of the Thames Borough Council on Thursday evening last a letter was read from Messrs Strange Bros, Mangaiti, as follows :—“ About 18 months ago we took up Block 4 of the Thames Borough endowment, intending to work in conjunction with Mr J. B. Johnson in bringing up a drain through the three blocks next the Waihou Eiver, but owing to financial losses we find ourselves unable to carry out the proposed work. Mr Johnson has approached us re his purchasing the lease of Block 4 from us in order that he may carry out the proposed work himself. We are will ing to let Mr Johnson have the block provided you will grant a transfer of the lease. We will, of course, pay up all rents owing on the block to you. I trust you will consider the matter favourably 'as it will be in every way to advantage of the Borough to have a comprehensive scheme of drainage carried out on these blocks, and will IjpUeve us from what is (without ! capPR) a useless baiden to us. Trusting to receive a favourable reply at your earliest convenience.'’
It was decided to comply with the request.
