The debate oh the Legislative Council’s Reform Bill was continued, .and adjourned till 7.80 P * digram’s Legislative Council Reform Bill was killed by 22 votes to two. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The Second Ballot Bill and Electoral Bill was read for the first time. Leave to introduce the Sugar and Tobacco Duties Abolition Bill ('Wilford) was refused by 40 to 22. The Road Board’s Act Amendment Bill passed its final stages. Mr Sedclon moved the second reading of the Teachers’ Superannuation Bill. He said in a few days he would bring down the Bill to increase the teachers’ salaries, otherwise the teachers would not he able to pay contributions demanded of them. He further stated the Colonial Secretary had a Bill in hand to provide a superannuation system for the whole civil service. If given an opportunity the government
would submit a scheme ot national pensions.- Even, however, if they had such a scheme, they would require to have the Old Age Pension and Civil Service Superannuation Scheme. The increases it was proposed to make in teachers’ salaries were equal to G§ per cent. The second reading was agreed to on the voices. The House rose at 11.50.
