Waihi Borough Loans
REFUSED BY THE COLONIAL TREASURER. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Waiiii, Thursday, The Waihi Borough Council has re ceived the following letter from the Treasuiy Department:—“ln reply to your letter of the 6th ult,, addressed to the Right Hon. the Colonial Treasurer, I am instructed by him to inform you that there are so many applications now being received from authorities in the back blocks, whose claim must have his earnest consideration, he regrets that he cannot entertain your Council’s application for an additional loan of £6OOO for waterworks, or of £2OOO for the erection of abattoirs.” Messrs Donaldson and Foster are now in Wellington endeavouring to get the Premier to alter bis decision, as both works are urgently wanted. Their first interview was not apparently encouraging, but the delegates seem to be more hopeful now in respect to tho waterworks loan, and they have telegraphed as follows : “ Stw the Premier again last night, and feel perfectly satisfied that the borough loan for the waterworks will be one of the first things entertained by tho Government as soon as possible.”
