Trees Overshadowing the Roads.

This question was again brought forward at the Piako County Council meeting yesterday, on the reading of Foreman Johnson’s report. The re port went on to say that there are several lots of trees which he considered are doing damage to the roads, viz., just past Waihou, on Mrs Cribb's property, a row of silver wattles; McCarthy’s old place (now Mrs Cornea’) pines and wattles; between Curtain’s Hill and Waitoa Bush, on Curtain’s Hill and Waitoa Bush, on Curtain’s property, clumps of pino trees; between Waiharakeko and poplar bridges on Mr Allen’s property, pine trees are keeping the road wet, the sun, for the greater part of the day, being unable to shine on them.

The Chairman (Mr Chepmell) said that the trees ordered to be out away Rims time ago on Allen’® property, were still intact. In riding along the road after nightfall, if a person chanced to travel along the side of the road, he ran a great risk of meeting with a sorious accident by overhanging brauchem. Those branches should be out away without further delay. Along the north side of the road on the same property ther« were a number of half grown scrubbing gum trees, about which there were a considerable number of dead branches, which are a source of danger to the travelling public. The other Saturday, after a good breeze, he noticed the road strewn with dead limbs, some of which were three or four feet long, and as thick as a man’s wrist. Had anybody be»n riding along at tho time the branches (ell, the result might have been seri • ouo.

On the motion of tho Chairman, seconded by Or Keoly the following resolutions were carried(l) That Mr Allen and others be asked to cut all branches of trees obstructing traffic. (2) That Mr Allen be nsked to remove all broom and other noxious weeds growing on the roads running through his property. (3) That if certain trees art (found to be on the road, Council re move them; if they are not on the road, Mr Allen bo i s eed to remove same. Mr Allen is als > to bo asked to remove rotten branches, as they are n serious menace to the travelling public.
