The conductor of ‘he orchestra in a Northern theatre is a Dutchman, arid bis sympathies are all with the Boers. Consequently, he dislikes playing ‘ God Save the King,’ prior to the commencement of the performance, and passes it over altogether when>he thinks the manager.is not listening. The other howovmV'fcho manager happened to be in ihe auditorium, and heard the unfamiliar music. Glidup, he touched the Dutchman on the shoulder. - * * What’s that, confounded thing you’re playing?’ he whisoered. ‘ I told you to start with the National Anthem.’ ‘ This is the National Anthetn, sir the Boer National Anthem,’ answered the Dutchman, boldly: ‘Oh, I see-God Save the Boers, eh ?’ commented the manager. ‘ Well you may as well go on with it. With Bobs and Kitchener on their track, they? 11 need all the prayers they can got!’ - ' :
