Te Aroha Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
The annual meeting of the above Society was held in the Waihoii Public Hall on Friday, 23rd March* Mr Herries in the chair. The minutes of previous meetings, were read and confirmed. Tho annual report and; balancesheet were read by the- Secretary, who= explained that owing to the difficulty of getting in accounts and subscriptions, it was not as as c ruld be desired. The total receipts in connection with the late Show were £155 12s 4d. Accounts- paid’ £193 14s ; cash in hand, £1 18s 4d. Unpaid subscription and othermoneys, owing to the Society, amounted’ to £ls 13, while accounts * and prize money unpaid amounted to £lB 0s fid. Debentures had been sold . to the amount of £4O, the money derived from' which had been expended in erecting yards, and also a shed in * which to store the Society’s property Mr Thos. Hinton proposed and MiffP E. Bowler seconded that the balance* sheet be adopted as read by the Secretary ;- at the same time requesting that, the Secretary and Treasurer get a valuation of yards, building, and other property owned by the Society, to belaid before tbe next meeting. It was resolved on the motion of Mr T. Stanley that Mr B. Jackson, measure-timber-used in making sheep hurdlesand tressles* Hinton and Bowler spoke of* the necessity of increasing the yard accommodation in order to keep pacewith the growth of the Show. It was resolved to issue further debentures to* the amount of £25, to meet cost of T same. . Election of Officers.—On the motiomre* of Mr Thos. Hinton, Mr Hemes wasu unanimously elected Patron for the" coming year, and a hearty vote of; thanks was accorded to the Hon. A. J. Oadman for- his services to the? Society during his term- of office. MrA. Bowler was elected President, andMessrs H. Cox, S. L. Hirst, T. Gavin;, . W. H. Wright, A. Aitken, J. McNicol,. - iThos. Heath, Jno. Allen, and W*. Hctherington, Vice-Presidents* Theold Committee were all returned exMr L* Nelson, who has left: the district, and the following, gentlemen were added—Messrs Mikkelsen,, W. Taylor, Cooper, Lennard, and ll* Clifford. Messrs Strange, Edwards,, and Gilchrist, wore re-elected secie tary, treasurer, and auditor, respi ctively* j ... An Executive Committee was formed! of the following gentlemen:: Messrs Hinton, J. Jackson, Hanks, C. 8.. Edwards, Marshall’, Pilling, Borne,, Bossons. Mikkelsen, Ross,, and Taylor. Mr Thos. Hinton proposed a.hear'y--1 vote of r thanks to tho Judges, .F,* Strange, senr., the Mamaku and Rimm timber Cumpanys’, for gifts of timber,, and others who had assisted the* Society by gifts and subscriptions—- ■ Carried with acclamation* The meeting then closed with ai hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
