A USEFUL SOCIETY.

A meeting took place in the Town Hall last evening to consider the advisability of forming a branch of the N.Z. Society for the Protection of Womeu and Children and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals* Present l Rev S. Griffith (in the chair), Revs McFarland and Walls,, Messrs Laybourn, Evans, Calder, Crombie, Mrs Sherlock Mr Bleneowe, Mr F. Lawn and Mrs Calder.. The Rev Griffith-spoke of the good work done by Societies of this description, and called upon Mr WildiDg, Chairman of the Society, at present on a visit to Te Aroha on business connected with the Society, who explained at some length the work c nnectedwith the Society. He stated he was asked by some friends in sympathy with tire Society to start a branch in this district, the result of which was the present meeting. A'number of questions were asked by those present, and satisfactorily answered.

On the motion of Mr Wilding, seconded by Mr J. Evans, it was re solved that an Aid Committee be formed. All present signified their willingness to join as active members. Rev E. J. MarFarland was elected President ; and Mrs Blencowe, Secretary. A vote of thanks to Mr Wilding and the chairman, also to MrR EJCrotubie for use of Hall, brought, the meeting to a close.. Next meeting is to take'place on April 2nd.
