The Inspection, Parade of the To Arolitu Rifles, called: for last evening, was not; very well attended, owing no doubt, to. the inclement state of tlio weather.. Major Porritt, commanding No. 2t Battalion, accompanied Adjutant Reid.. After the arms and accoutrements had been inspected by Adjutant Reid, Major Porritt, in a, few well-chosen remarks, presented Sergt. W. Maingay with the Company’s challenge bolt,, and complimented him on the excellent score he had made;. He hoped the Government would not lose the services of. such, sterling shots as Sergt*. Maingay:. Letter read, asking- the corps to co-operate with the Auckland corps iru getiing up a testimonial and purse off sovereigns to Captain Grant, Adjutant, on his retirement Itrwas resolved: to start a Is sub from. all. the members..
