FIRST DAY. The first day of. the Ghinemuri JockeyClub’s annual race meeting was field on Saturday last (St.. Patrick’s Day).. Splendid weather prevailed, and there-, was a large attendance. The following are the results - Maiden Plate.—Belfast 1; Swiftfoot 2;. Arena 3;, Swiftfoot got away with; the lead and held, it until, turning, into, the straight, wlien. Belfast after a. fine finish, won by a short-half length, Dividend, £3,195. Hurdle Race.—Voltigeur 1; Rangi--punehu 2; Libeller. 3. Wen.by. 3 lengths; Dividend; 18s. Pony Race.—Yarra 1-.; Trooper 2 .Repetition 3.. A protest, was entered;: • against the first and second horses for .going- inside a post.. The stewards* decidod that the race be r.un over again.. In the run off. Trooper and Yarra werethe only starters; the - former winningby a length;. Dividend 16s, the moneyon Repetition and Bob.beingretunj^fv. ' Ohinemuri Cup.—Admiral’ Hawke* . 1; : Honesty 2 ; Porangi Potae 3. At* the fall of the flhg. Honesty took comtmand and showed, the way for about a mile and a quarter; when Admiral! Hawke put in his claim, and wearing; down the daughter of. Cap-a-pie, wou comfortably by three lengths. Dividend £h. Steeplechase.—Stockman 1;. Wool--man 2. These were the only- two, horses that completed, the journey.. Woolman and Glenloch fell at thethird, jump, Glenloch breaking his. neck, and severely injuring his jockey,- r Neils.. The rider of Woolman was* again quickly.in the saddle and set sail: after the leaders. Voltigeur and Stock--man racing to the sod wall together,, the grey refusing to negoiate, leaving; Stockman to win as he liked from.,. Woolman. Dividend £1 25..
