FIRE IN TE AROHA.
MR T.. McINDOE’S NEW HOUSE BURNED DOWN. About 8 o’clock last night the recentlyhung fire bell rang out an alarm of Eire ! For a minute or two people were at a loss to locate the outbreak, but the flames soon left no doubt whatever as to-whose-property was indanger. It turned out to be Mr T. Melndoe’s commodious* premises, situate at the back of the Domain gr ■unds. which were nearing completion. The bullkling consisted of ten rooms. The fire stalled in one of the hack rooms, and as -Te Aroha does not possess a Brigade, and no water being available, nothing could be done to save the building. A ninnbe. of willing hands were soon on the spot, and’ set to work shift : ng everything moveable, such as timber, etc., considerably lessening the loss. Within the sp me of a few minutes a 1 irge c.owd had gathered at the scone of the fire, but c *uld* only look on and see the once fine building- couiplefey demolished. The building was insured' for £2OO in tho Phoenix Office, there was also a builder’s risk on the building; Mr Donald’s residence, situated a short distance away, locked as if it was in danger, as the fal ing sparks threatened!tho shingle roof.
