"We have received! from, Mr Thus. Garrard, secretary, the prospectus of the Canterbury Jubilee Industrial Exhibition, 1900-1901, to be opened on or about Nov. Ist 1900. The Wellington « Times ,T thus refers- to the subject: “ It is the purpose of the Canterbury Industrial Association to this year celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the settlement of the provincial district of Canterbury by holding in Christchurch an exhibition of the arts,, industries; resources and productions of the colony. The last exhibition of the Association, it may be noted, was held in 1894, but as many great improvements have since been made in most branches of industry, and so many new enterprises introduced, it is generally recognised that the occasion will be a most suitable time to practically illustrate the great strides the manufacturing interests have made throughout the colony, by giving encouragement to all classes of industry, and intercolonial commerce. Exhibits of all kinds will be invited from every part of the colony, and special inducement will be offered for the exhibition of processes of manufacture. Iu invit ing manufacturers and others to become exhibitors, the executive, it may be mentioned, have fixed a date that will not only suitably commemorate the first settlement of the provincial district, but will secure, and be an additional attraction to the large mum b rof visitors touring throughout the c loay at the time, and particularly the thousands who visit Christchurch from-all parts of the colony during its r cognised carnival week in November, which will include the Agricultural and Pastoral Show and the Spring Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club. At this time, too, the opening of the Agricultural and Industrial Hall will be celobjatc-d, and to further promote the success of tho
Canterbury Exhibition.
venture the Industrial Corporation of New Zealand has offered its heartiest support to the tindertaking. All these factors, coupled with the generous assistance of the New Zealand Government, lead the executive to believe 1 that its efforts will be supported heartily by all interested, and that the Jubilee Exhibition of Canterbury will far outshine any previous effort to foster and encourage-.the industries and productions of the - colony.”
