SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Committee w.ts h *ld in he-Domain Offico on Monday night, when there were present: Messrs Wallace, Stanley, Robinson, Lamb, ami Hill (r ecretary). In the tibsmce of Mr G.lchs.ist,. Mr Wallace a - voted to the chain. T e Bccietar3' was. directed to write tl e Board asking them (l) to put the urin.ls iu a pioper condition, their construction being defective and productive of a c.mtiuued nuisance. (2) To put up a new fence round the school ground. The present one is in a very delnpidafed condition, and will, always be a'souree of expense. When the Board’s architect was here some 3 years ago, he instructed that some repairs should be effected,, but admitted that it would only l?e a question <of a very short time uutil a new fence was required. (3). To ask for 3 casks of tar with which to patch up broken places in the already asphalted ground and to give the whole area another c at. The c. m uittee wore of opinion that a little outlay just i ow, before the wet weather set in, would obviate the necessity for a greater expenditure later on. This will assuredly be re quired if nothing is done this season. If the Board will grant the tar, the Committee will find the labour to spread it. (4). To draw the Board’s attention to the necessity for painting the teacher’s house.. This building has not been painted since its erection, and in the interest of preserving the building the Committee decided, to urge upon the Board- the advisability of painting same. The matter of trimming the trees round the footpaths, and having the spouting and drains cleaned out was left in the hands of Mr Stanley. The Committee decided to vote for Messrs Lambe, Reed, and McLeod, as members of the Board of Education.
