Ammunition for our Army.
The London Daily Telegraph of December 1 says: The steamship Karami will leave the Thames to-day with one of the heaviest cargoes of war material which has ever been despatched from the British shores. Amongst the ammunition on board are 40,000,000 rounds of small-arm ammunition m 3640 boxes, 7000 rounds of sin. lyddits shell in 2000 boxes, 851 boxes of fuse and 40 boxes of pistol ammunition. There is also on board a largVLquantity of star shell, by which position can be ascertained after dark, and their camps any time. Each shell contains*ix stars of magnesium light composition, burning between 18s and 14s, and seven stars of signal hght composition, burning between 34s and 365. The shell is fired by a time fuse and, by the adoption of a code of different colors, communication can be kept up between two bodies of British troops, who may be located a considerable distance from each other. Scotland Yard detectives have been engaged in watching the Karami, as a precaution against any incendiary spies or suspicious characters who may be loitering about the ship. The guards at the powder magazines m flumstead Marches and at Purfleet have been doubled. The Karami will fly her yellow flag until she gets out of British waters, as a caution to all craft to keep a respectful distance,
